All MSW students must complete two internships in combination with integrative seminars that mingle classroom discussion, case presentations and “brown bags” as part of the ongoing field education experience.
Foundation Placement
Your first-year placement will orient you to the profession, enabling you to provide direct service to individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities, and learn core practice skills including psychosocial assessment, clinical interviewing and evaluation. The experience is a stepping stone to developing self-awareness and professional values.
Our field education faculty will determine your foundation year placement based on your learning goals, work and volunteer experiences, educational background and career aspirations. You will be notified of your placement at the end of August and invited to visit your assigned agency.
Concentration Placement
The second field placement builds on the foundation of the first year, helping you develop advanced clinical skills and knowledge within a designated concentration area.
An active participant in choosing your concentration placement, you will interview with three agencies that you select from a list of approved internships. The concentration field coordinator will then assign you a placement that best fits your educational goals based on your feedback, input from the agency and whether a particular field instructor and/or agency can meet your needs.
