Criteria
• A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university, with an interdisciplinary liberal arts background, including study in the humanities and physical, social, biological and natural sciences
• A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 grading scale)
• Strong academic promise to perform successfully at the graduate level
• Experience in providing service to people preferred
• Potential for professional competence, strong interest and motivation, and commitment to social work values such as the appreciation for cultural and ethnic diversity; belief in the dignity and freedom of every individual; promotion of social justice and equal access to resources; and institutional responsiveness to human needs and social change
• Personal qualifications such as maturity, emotional stability, sensitivity and responsiveness in relationships, capacity for self-awareness, concern for the needs of others, ability for abstract reasoning, conceptual thinking and strong communication skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
• Only legal residents of Taiwan (Republic of China) are eligible for the GMSW program.
• Applicants must be proficient in English and Mandarin. GMSW students will complete their field practicum assignments in agencies where Mandarin and English are required.
• Students whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and submit their scores. The Admissions Committee will review TOEFL scores and assess these students’ English proficiency. We require a total score of 100 on the Internet-based test, with no less than 20 on each of the four test components. Students must have taken the TOEFL test within the last two years.
