The Doctoral Student Association (DSA) is a student-led organization that represents the doctoral students in the USC School of Social Work and their special interests and concerns pertaining to the doctoral studies program. In addition to serving as the voice of the doctoral students to the Doctoral Committee, the DSA also gives students a chance to socialize with their colleagues at parties, cultural events, health-promoting classes and other events. The DSA also works toward improving communication among doctoral students, faculty and master of social work students in the school.
Yoga and Mindfulness Class
Date: Thursday, November 12, 2009
Location: SWC 118
Teacher: Gretchen Heidemann and Matt Brensilver
The word yoga means union, specifically the union between mind and body. Join us for 45 minutes of yoga, where we'll use breath and movement to release tension, clear the mind of distractions and gain a sense of balance and clarity. We'll start with some basic warm-ups, generate a little heat in the body by practicing simple sun salutations, strengthen the body through standing poses and cool down with forward folds and stretching – all of this set to calming music.
There are no prerequisites, and beginners are welcome. We will be moving and stretching, so wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to remove shoes and socks. If you have a yoga or fitness mat, please bring it. If not, a large towel such as a beach towel will be just fine. Lots of water is also encouraged.
