School of Social Work Scholarships
The USC School of Social Work offers supplemental financial assistance to students whose financial need cannot be adequately met through need-based loans.
Dean’s Leadership Scholarship
Scholarship awards for incoming full-time students with demonstrated leadership capacity and experience who plan to attend the University Park campus, Orange County Academic Center, Skirball Academic Center or San Diego Academic Center. All interested and eligible students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, with two or more years of human/social service and leadership experience. Consideration will be based on GPA; the Dean's Leadership Scholarship Application; and leadership skills, experience and interests highlighted in the resume and statement of purpose, as well as the overall quality of the admissions application. Prospective students may indicate their interest in applying for this scholarship by selecting the corresponding option on the social work supplemental form during the MSW Admissions Application Process. If a student indicates interest in applying for the Dean's Leadership Scholarship, he/she will receive an email from the Office of Scholarship Programs with instructions on how to complete the online application. In order to be considered for this award, you would need to have applied by the January 15, 2013 deadline.
Academic Center Scholarships
Scholarships awarded to students enrolled in eight or more units at the Orange County, Skirball, or San Diego Academic Center with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Award amounts vary based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to need and academic merit and are determined by a student’s application for admission. Please note that no additional application is necessary for this award. Full-time Academic Center applicants are encouraged to submit their MSW application to be considered for Center scholarships by January 15, 2013.
School of Social Work Endowed Scholarships
Scholarships awarded to students enrolled in eight or more units with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Award amounts vary based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to need and academic merit. International students and continuing part-time students are eligible and strongly encouraged to apply. Prospective students may indicate their interest in applying for these endowed scholarships by selecting the corresponding option on the social work supplemental form during the MSW Admissions Application Process. If a student indicates interest in applying for the these scholarships, he/she will receive an email from the Office of Scholarship Programs with instructions on how to complete the online general scholarship application. Please note that although there are various endowed scholarships, students are only required to complete one general scholarship application.
Yellow Ribbon Program
Students eligible for the Post-911 G.I. Bill who meet the specified criteria can earn tuition awards of up to $20,000 through a matched scholarship program with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
City Year Scholarship
The City Year Scholarship is awarded to two incoming students each academic year, who have performed a year of service to underprivileged communities and demonstrate academic merit. Recipients are awarded $15,000 per academic year (one installment each semester) over two years for a total of $30,000. The award will automatically renew for the second academic year as long as students remain in good academic standing and enrolled in the two-year full-time program. Matthew Holland Scholarship for Social Work
This scholarship is awarded in conjunction with the USC Lambda LGBT Alumni Association. The award ranges from $2,000-$4,000 per academic year and will be offered to a select number of current students in the MSW program who have demonstrated a commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues through academic accomplishments, community involvement and/or other personal contributions. Recipients must be enrolled in at least eight units for each semester of the academic year.
Frances Wu Endowed Scholarship
Ranging from $4,000 to $6,000 per academic year, this scholarship is awarded to students who express a commitment to work within the Chinese elderly community. To be considered, you must complete the USC School of Social Work general endowed scholarship application. Incoming students will be sent a link after the submission of the application for admission. Continuing students can complete the general scholarship application.
Florence Crittenton Endowed Scholarship
Ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per academic year, this scholarship assists Florence Crittenton employees who are pursuing an MSW degree at the USC School of Social Work with the cost of tuition and fees. To be eligible, applicants must have been employed by one of the Florence Crittenton agencies for a minimum of one year on a full-time basis. To be considered, you must complete the USC School of Social Work general endowed scholarship application. Incoming students will be sent a link after the submission of the application for admission. Continuing students can complete the general scholarship application.
Barbara Solomon Endowed Scholarship
Ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 per academic year, this scholarship is awarded to African-American students pursuing an MSW at the USC School of Social Work with an expressed interest in working within the African-American community. To be considered, you must complete the USC School of Social Work general endowed scholarship application. Incoming students will be sent a link after the submission of the application for admission. Continuing students can complete the general scholarship application.
Gary Sinise Endowed Scholarship
This $5,000 scholarship is awarded each academic year to MSW students who have served in the military, who have been wounded or disabled in military service, are the children or family members of a fallen service member or come from an active military family. These students’ primary focus will be a commitment to helping their fellow veterans by working with active duty service members, veterans and their families. To be considered, you must complete the USC School of Social Work general endowed scholarship application. Incoming students will be sent a link after the submission of the application for admission. Continuing students can complete the general scholarship application.
Los Amigos De La Humanidad Endowed Scholarship
Ranging from $4,000 to $7,000 per academic year, this scholarship is awarded to Latin American/Hispanic students pursuing an MSW at the USC School of Social Work with demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. To be considered, you must complete the USC School of Social Work general endowed scholarship application. Incoming students will be sent a link after the submission of the application for admission. Continuing students can complete the general scholarship application.
