Online Course   School Receives $2 Million Gift to
Tackle Homelessness

The USC School of Social Work has received a $2 million gift from Scott Watt and the Watt Family Foundation to develop an initiative to help reduce Los Angeles’ homeless population, now the largest in the United States. AIDS Along US-Mexico Border   In the Land of Hidden AIDS Cases
If the 2,000-mile region along the U.S.-Mexico border were a state, it would rank 12th nationally in AIDS cases per capita, says Helen Land. The social work professor's new book examines culturally sensitive health care practices among Latinos who comprise 13 percent of the U.S. population but account for 19 percent of new AIDS cases. The USC School of Social Work hosted its annual awards gala, “A Celebration of the Heart,” on April 1 at the Beverly Hills Hotel, honoring outstanding achievers in academia and community service for their contributions to scholarship and volunteerism that have positively changed the lives of others. Boston College's Kevin J. Mahoney took home the night's most prestigious award, the Flynn Prize for Research. Read More »



Teen Line   Social Work Students Offer Teens Cultural Sensitivity Training
Eight USC School of Social Work students recently tested their textbook knowledge on cultural sensitivity in a real-life training workshop with the staffers of Teen Line, a confidential peer hotline. Read More »

  WELCOME BACK
In collaboration with the newly formed Social Work Alumni Association, the USC School of Social Work invited alumni back to campus to reconnect with fellow graduates and faculty, giving all a chance to meet, mingle and mix it up. The association was established to support the core values of the profession and the mission of the school by promoting the continued strength and development of alumni through collaboration, social networking and professional development. Chariss Filart, Janet Ibarra and Sonia Ortiz from the Class of 2006 were among the 200 in attendance at the April 5 reception held at the USC Widney Alumni House.
