STEPHANIE BATES is an adjunct lecturer of field education at the Virtual Academic Center. She has supervised several students, from the first VAC cohort to the recent spring 2015 Master of Social Work graduates. She taught two years of virtual clinical experience based on her clinical field expertise working with the military and their family members. Most recently, she taught Virtual Field Placement 586A.
A licensed clinical social worker, she has more than 20 years of experience working in health care and mental health care agencies. For the last six years, Bates has been specializing in direct service to active duty military, veterans, retirees and their families both at the Pentagon and the Fort Belvoir military installation. She was responsible for brokering her military-based field agency’s original field contract with USC, as well as partnering with several other top universities to bring high-quality clinical field practicum experiences to the Washington, D.C., area.
She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland’s European division while stationed at a Royal Air Force base in England during the Gulf War. She completed her graduate course work at the University of Kansas while stationed at Fort Leavenworth.
