TERESA ALCÁNTAR NELSON is a member of the adjunct faculty. She has more than 20 years of experience working in numerous capacities in the field of social work.

Specializing in school social work, she worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for more than 14 years, serving in several roles within the school mental health unit. The bulk of her experiences focused on providing direct school-based mental health services to K-12 students and their families. She also worked in the field of health education for a major health organization, teaching classes on stress reduction and depressive symptom reduction employing mind-body techniques. 

She is a licensed clinical social worker and maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Los Angeles, California. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Alcántar Nelson has a special affinity for working with women, high-risk youth and minority populations. 

She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, San Diego. She received her master’s degree in social work from USC, along with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential and child welfare and attendance credential.
