THOMAS PETERSON joined the adjunct faculty in 2010. He serves as a public information specialist at the newly formed Riverside University Health System-Behavioral Health, which is the successor to the Riverside County Department of Mental Health. In this role, he manages internal and external communications for the department and is a member of the senior management team that is developing and implementing a rebranding effort and strategic communications plan.    

Peterson has worked in the field of public policy for more than a decade. Previously, he was director of public policy for AIDS Services Foundation Orange County, the region’s largest nonprofit provider of care and services for people living with HIV/AIDS. He worked on legislative and budgetary advocacy at the local, state and national levels, as well as served in a leadership capacity in a number of organizations and coalitions.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in politics and philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in business administration from the USC Marshall School of Business.
