Departments of Study

Depending on area of interest, students select from one of the school’s three departments of study.

  1. Adult Mental Health and Wellness
  2. Children, Youth and Families
  3. Social Change and Innovation

Within each department of study, you will complete one semester of foundation courses, followed by three semesters of courses focused on your chosen department’s specific issues. Courses emphasize real-world skills increasingly demanded by top employers and organizations, such as:

  • Critical thinking and analysis
  • Complex problem solving
  • Data-informed decision-making
  • Budgeting
  • Cross-discipline collaboration
  • Workload management
  • Creativity
  • Accountability

Each department’s courses also incorporate evidence-based approaches, new neuroscience findings and implications, the latest in prevention and early intervention, as well as best practices for social workers in a variety of fields. Students may further customize their study by selecting tracks such as Military Social Work, Social Work in Business, School Social Work, Gerontology and Behavioral Health.
