DARLENE WOO has been a member of the field education faculty since 2006 and a field instructor to graduate-level social work students since 2002. As a member of the field faculty, Woo teaches the integrative field seminar course, serves as academic advisor and liaises with students at their placements to ensure educational needs are met.
She is also a member of the foundation year placement committee and assists with identifying, interviewing and approving potential agencies and field instructors for field education. Along with these responsibilities, Woo helps match students with placements for their foundation-year internship. In addition, she is a member of the foundation year committee for the Los Angeles area schools of social work consortium and collaborates with other field educators in designing strategies to identify and recruit new field placement agencies and field instructors.
Woo, who has previously worked in human resources, is also presently an independent consultant. She is experienced in developing programs, submitting grant applications, providing field instruction services, conducting staff development trainings and providing other human resources activities.
During her career, Woo has helped homeless/runaway youth, HIV-positive youth, probation youth and transitional youth, and has worked with community-based health centers, home health care businesses, research departments in academic institutions and various non-profit organizations. Prior to coming to USC, Woo was employed as a human resources recruitment specialist for a nationwide home healthcare company and a partner of a start-up management consulting firm.
