SUSAN EDWARDS joined as a visiting clinical assistant professor for the Virtual Academic Center in September 2013.

Before teaching for the school, Edwards had nearly 20 years of post-MSW experience in various settings. For nine years, she was a medical social worker for Hospice of the Northwest, and prior to that she supervised the Children’s Extended Care program for Compass Health. As program supervisor, she oversaw agency therapists and provided outpatient, in-home and community therapy.

Edwards graduated in 1991 from Goshen College with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She completed her MSW with a focus in family center services in 1994 with advanced standing from the University of Iowa. She completed her field placement with United Action for Youth, a community program that provides therapy and facilitates teen parenting groups.

Following her graduation, Edwards recruited and licensed foster parents while providing in-home support and case management for foster children with Lutheran Social Service in Oklahoma City, Okla. She then had the opportunity to return to her alma mater, Goshen College, and spent four years working as the Alumni and Parent Program director. She moved to Washington state in 2001 to resume her social work career.
