Welcome to the University of Southern California Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. To make your transition to USC as smooth as possible, we encourage you to follow the checklist and complete each task. Frequently Asked Questions

I paid my commitment deposit, but decided to attend another school. Is it refundable?
No, the commitment deposit is non-refundable.

Do I need to participate in Community Immersion/Orientation?
Yes. Community Immersion and Orientation are mandatory for all incoming MSW students. Students attending the Orange County (OCAC) Academic Center will be required to attend Orientation at the University Park Campus for the first day and participate in Community Immersion in Orange County.

Do I need to attend the USC orientation?
USC orientation is not mandatory for students.

What if I cannot attend summer welcome in June?
Summer welcome is not a mandatory event, rather, an event to meet fellow MSW students. If you cannot attend, there is no penalty, nor will you miss any crucial information regarding the program.

When do I register for classes?
Registration will take place in late summer, however this information will be announced once the university assigns the school a registration date. Please check your USC email and USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work website for updates.

What do I do if I did not get a USC email?
Please contact the USC Information and Technology Services (ITS) Department.

I am a dual-degree student. Who do I speak to about courses?
All dual-degree students may contact Dorothy Scott at for questions regarding School courses.

When do classes begin?
Classes for the Fall 2016 semester begin the week of August 21, 2017.

How am I selected for my field placement?
All incoming full-time students must complete their Field Placement Form Packets. Complete the Foundation Placement form and be sure to indicate your campus location on the form. Once completed and turned in, our field faculty will review and place students based on experience, interest and agency needs. Failure to complete the form may cause a delay in your placement.

When will I be notified about my field placement?
Notification of placements are sent via email during August 2017.

Getting Started

 Submit “Intent to Enroll in Graduate Studies” form
 Submit your $280 commitment deposit
 Details provided in your admissions packet and link to pay sent via email.
  2 weeks after admission decision
 Submit immunization records
USC requires proof of measles (Rubella) and mumps immunity from all incoming students.
 Activate your USC email account
 Submit Field Education form 
All students must submit the Field Education form to be placed in an internship. Your admission to the program is not confirmed until this form is received. Failure to submit the Field Education form within five days may result in the withdrawal of your admission.
