Overview of CEU's

As a part of the school’s alumni and career development programming, we offer both in-person and virtual opportunities for alumni, students and community partners to attend courses, events, film screenings, panels, and presentations led by engaging speakers and renowned faculty who share the latest research and evidence-based practices.

From workshops that explore homelessness and health inequality to mental illness and crisis and trauma, you have the opportunity to participate in thought-provoking and informative programming throughout the year.

Why CEU's are Important

A CEU is a unit of credit offered by a continuing education “provider” approved by a state licensing board. Providers include accredited schools of social work, like the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, associations like the National Association of Social Workers, and other organizations that offer continuing education activities and meet licensing board requirements.

CEUs are vital to Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), who are required to complete a certain number of hours of continuing education for licensure renewal to stay current with their practice. The number of hours of continuing education required to maintain a license varies by state. For example, in California, all LCSWs are required to complete 36 hours of continuing education during each two (2)-year license renewal period.

Alumni are encouraged to complete their continuing education hours at their alma mater, where we consider CEUs to not only be a state requirement, but an opportunity to enhance your domain professional expertise and strategically position yourself for long-term success.

What CEU's We Offer

Many of our programs provide CEUs. Promotional materials for the activity will likely indicate whether CEUs will be offered for attending and certificates are usually issued as proof that a practitioner has completed CEUs.

The next time you receive promotional materials for a social work event, look to see if it indicates that CEUs will be offered! It will often also state how many credits you will be eligible to earn at the event.

One more thing—and this is very important to remember—if you are eligible to receive CEU credits at an event, you must indicate this when you register or check-in for the event. If you miss this step, you risk losing the opportunity to receive the CEUs with certificate at the completion of the event.

CEU Class Offerings

University Consortium for Children and Families (UCCF) Free CEUs The University Consortium for Children and Families (UCCF) is offering a limited number of spaces in courses free of charge to USC MSW and DSW alumni.

Suicide Prevention: Epidemiology, Assessment and Interventions Presented by the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work Alumni Association and the California Society of Clinical Social Work, this training meets the new one-time mandatory 6-CEU requirement from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS)

Social Workers and Balance: Professional Skill Development, Self-Care and Resiliency Designed to help recent alumni develop the tools and skills needed to become healthy and more productive micro, mezzo and macro practitioners and ultimately improve the quality of care they provide their clients, organizations, and communities.
